I do not see a hierarchical distinction between fine art and illustration, the abstract, or representational. Craftsmanship improves the artist’s work, and the hand of the artist shows in every craft.  The traditions of painting, drawing, and illustration require lifetimes of study and practice to improve, including the applications of a wide variety of mediums: pens, pencils, inks, markers, and paints. It’s through observation in the world around me, along with the reverie of my imagination that drives me to paint, draw, and record time as visual art. 

I work on paintings and drawings until they are finished – sometimes quickly in a few contiguous sessions; and other times I will revisit the piece over longer stretches of time. It’s essential to keep sketching for practice and the joy of it, accumulating sketchbooks for reference or new ideas. I feel disconnected if I’m not painting, drawing, or sketching something daily. The greatest joy is to share my pictures with others that find some value in them too. Whether the artwork is for my lively-hood or not, I want to create something lasting and inspiring.
